2.
A richly detailed composition set in the middle of Vivary Park. Large circular
basin with central fountain erected in memory of Queen Victoria and completed 1907.
Colourwashed stone base with cast iron detail. The central fountain has clustered
columns to the base with 4 attached shafts and brackets supporting lively putti
riding on the backs of grotesque dolphins with foliated tails. Good curved reliefs
of rural scenes on curved facets of the central shaft. Above is a large circular
bowl with crested outer rim and bullrush detail on underside. Above this, the central
shaft is surrounded by daffodils and 4 pelicans with outstretched wings, the spouts
of the fountain in their breasts. Finally, on top is a smaller bowl with scallop
shell detail supporting a robed female figure with torch raised in left hand.
The outer rim of main basin on ground has rosettes and a cartouche with details
of the dedication.
