Railway station, now house. Dated 1847; for Wear Valley branch of Stockton and
Darlington Railway. Yellow brick with plinth and ashlar dressings; stone-flagged
roof with stone gable copings. H-plan. Gothic style. Main building 2 storeys,
3 bays, the central wide and the outer gabled. Central boarded door, with
elaborate hinges and handle, in Tudor-arched surround with integral hood-mould.
Square-headed surrounds in similar style to narrow flanking sashes, 2 blind
windows above containing blank high-relief stone shields, and central half-
dormer with slit in gable peak. Projecting outer bays contain windows in similar
style,of 2 or 3 lights,and a canted bay at right on ground floor with
battlemented stone-flagged roof. All windows stone-mullioned with sloping sills.
Large curved kneelers support moulded gable coping; ball finials on kneelers and
outer gables. Steeply-pitched roof has polygonal brick chimneys on ashlar
plinths in groups of 2 on main ridge and 3 on end ridges. Rear has platform
canopy linking outer gables.

Small one-storey, 2-bay building at right in similar style with L-plan completed
by linking wall to main building; Tudor-arched door in link, door and window in
gable to front at left. Roll-moulded coping on link wall.

Interior: many original fittings, with waiting-room benches, Gothic chimney-
pieces, and main first-floor board-room with stucco cornice.
