Terrace of three storey five window brown brick fronts. 1788-90 when the street was laid out by Sir Benjamin Hammet (MP for Taunton, Keeper of the Castle etc). The properties are divided by plain pilasters. Continuous eaves cornice. Mixture of slate and tile roofs. Original rainwater pipes. Sash windows in plain reveals, some glazing bars missing. Painted stone doorcases with half round Tuscan pilasters, open pediments and traceried fanlights. Six-panel doors (four panels to No 8). Round headed entry arch between Nos 5 and 6. No 5 has a later shop window to right. Side of No 3 has three windows and forms part of the west side of Church Square.

All the listed buildings in Hammet Street together with St Mary Magdalene Church and the listed buildings in Church Square form an extremely important group.
