Description

WRIGHTINGTON
SD50NW APPLEY LANE
1283-/10/10006 (West side)
25/06/73 Barn to north-west of Aspinalls
Farmhouse

GV II

Barn. Probably C17; altered, and the north end dilapidated at time of suvey (1991). Mostly coursed squared sandstone, but south gable of brick; stone slate roof. Five bays on north-south axis, built on rising ground with shippons below and barn above. The east side (to the road), which appears to have been built in 3 sections and is now somewhat bowed in the northern half, has a full-height waggon doorway in the 4th bay, a low doorway to the 2nd bay, 2 small windows to the 1st bay and a square loading door above these; and the roof over the north end is damaged, the ridge sagging badly and some stone slates missing. South end still in use as shippon. Large C20 additions to west side. Interior not inspected.
