Milepost, probably early C19, cast iron. Cylindrical post carries
curved plate inscribed CHURCH LAWTON 5 1/2 MILES; NEWCASTLE 12: HOLMES
CHAPEL 3 MILES; KNUTSFORD 11; WARRINGTON 22; LIVERPOOL 41, all in
raised sans serif capitals. The post is inscribed, in oval pattern
W H SMITH & CO: MAKER: WHITCHURCH. A turnpike milepost.
