Formerly known as: Nos.6 AND 6A CHURCH STREET.
House. C15, with C18 rebuilding and refacing, C20 partial
integration with No.6 (qv). Timber framing and red brick,
peg-tiled roof, red brick stack. Rectangular plan. 2 storeys
and cellar. S front elevation: brick with stone cornice,
parapet and string course. 4 window range with full depth
painted reveals, good voussoirs. Ground floor, 2 similar
doorways, flat hoods, reeded jambs and recessed panelled
doorcases, one (W) has an overlight and door of 6 panels,
upper 4 glazed, other door of 6 recessed panels. 2 windows,
alternating, sashes with glazing bars, 3x4 panes. Cellar
grating to W end. First floor, 4 windows similar to ground
floor, W end window late C20 reinstated (was blocked). Stack
at W end, 2 further stacks behind roof apex. Rear, N
elevation: street range has C19 brick ground floor slated
lean-to with continuation round E return wall of yard. Tall
stack at W end with gabled cross-roof behind. Ground floor,
C20 4 panelled door, upper 2 glazed, adjacent, 2x3 paned
casement window. E return has similar window but C19, of 2
casements. First floor, one C20 2x3 paned casement window and
one C19 sliding sash window, glazing bars, 4x4 panes.
INTERIOR: ground floor, rear, some framing exposed with lower
part of rising arched brace. Cellar has curved tunnel way
approach to segment headed vault, window splay to street. RCHM
records an enclosed crown post roof on N-S axis within present
roof, revealed in 1965 during roof work. This is probably on
alignment of rear sub-gable behind stack.
