Stable and coachhouse, now garage and storage shed. Mid C18.
Stone rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings; roof of
pantiles with 2 rows of stone slates at eaves. One storey; 3
bays. West front to Wood Street has segmental arch with
voussoirs; at right, double boarded doors under old oak
lintel, and at right end a single boarded door, with vent slit
between; left bay blind. Left return has oak lintel to boarded
door; right return has inserted double vehicle doors. Roof
structure and covering removed entirely from central bay.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
HISTORY: map evidence suggest that this may have been the
stable and coachhouse for the previous house at Nos 42 and 44
Newgate (qv), of which an C18 rear wing survives.
