Description

TEWKESBURY

SO8933 HIGH STREET
859-1/5/225 (West side)
27/07/73 No.65
Trafalgar House

GV II

House in row. c1860s. Flemish bond brickwork, slate roof,
brick stack. 2 storeys, attic and basement, 2-windowed. Small
gabled dormers with 4-pane lights to cambered heads. At ground
and first floors are 4-pane sashes in moulded stone
architraves to segmental heads, with cill-band to first floor,
and 2 brackets to each cill. There is a basement grille set to
the pavement. To the left an arched opening with alternating
quoins to its right, V-joint voussoirs above a plain fanlight
and 3-panel moulded C19 door on 2 sandstone steps. To the
right is a footscraper in the small plinth. Alternating
rusticated quoins, wood modillion cornice, brick stack to
right. INTERIOR not inspected. This is a modest rebuild or
late insertion, demonstrating sensitivity and good manners in
urban design, without resorting to pastiche.
