No .23 No.24 (Little Cleves Cottage)

House, now divided into 2. C16 and later. One-and-a-half storeys; basic 3-
cell plan, with extensions. Timber-framed; encased in mid C19 red brick; mid
C20 concrete pantiles replacing former thatch. An internal chimney-stack
between the 2 halves of the building with 3 high red brick sawtooth shafts and
a recessed plastered panel in the base below them with 2 rounded arches.
Various 2-light late C19 small-paned casement windows; mid C20 replacements to
No.23. 2 gabled dormers. No.23 said to have all timbers concealed inside.
No.24 has exposed framing and ceilings; 2 rooms to each storey, the former
outer wall, with blocked windows and grooves for lathing for external plaster,
running between them. The stair in a timber-framed lean-to along the rear
wall. A main ceiling-beam near the front of the chimney-stack suggests that
the stack may be a later insertion.
