House. Circa 1650 with alterations and additions by Leonard Stokes in circa
1900. Timber framed and rendered with additions in rendered brick. Tile hung
gable ends to north and south. Old tile roof. L-plan lobby entrance type of
4 framed bays, and later additions to north and west with canted bay to west.
2 storeys, and 1 ½ storeys to north-east. Moulded gutters. Ridge stacks to
north and south, and end stack to east. Flat-topped dormer to north with
6-light casement, and projecting canted flat topped dormer above passageway
to north-west. North front: left-hand block: large gable to left with 4-light
first floor casement and 2 flat-topped canted bays beneath with glazing bar
sashes and central half glazed doors with projecting flat hoods. Passageway
to right with boarded door in left-hand return front. Right-hand block:
first floor 2-light casement to left, and open ground floor with round arched
loggia. Gable end to right with first floor cross window flanked by 2-light
casements. Interior: C17 staircase with newel and cut balusters. Fittings by Stokes
in a quiet free neo-Georgian style include fireplaces, panelling,
mouldings, and of particular interest the classical inglenook with
flanking seats, cupboards, shelves, and 2 small windows. These are competent
and sensitive alterations and additions in the Arts and Crafts tradition.
