Small villa, now part of Tunstall Independent School, with
wall attached enclosing garden to W. c1840 with late C19
alterations. Garden wall bond brick (5 and one) with ashlar
plinth and dressings; Welsh slate roof with brick and ashlar
chimneys. Wall attached rubble with brick dressings.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, 5 windows; one-storey porch added at left
and square projecting bay window added on right return.
Central half-glazed door and overlight with glazing bars in
high panelled reveals, possibly a Sunderland type door fixed
back permanently, in doorcase of ashlar Tuscan columns and
high entablature with blocking course. Wedge stone lintels and
projecting stone sills to sashes with glazing bars; giant
angle pilasters; later addition of stone frieze with eaves
brackets; hipped roof with ridge, left end and rear chimneys.
Left porch has garden door and sidelights under single wide
wedge stone lintel; right return has tripartite window in
projecting bays with yellow-stain painted floral frieze; door
inserted in window to right. Left return of left porch on bend
of Tunstall Road has internal steps within stone surround with
tongue-stopped chamfer and WEST LODGE carved above shaped
arch.
INTERIOR shows further high quality decorated glass of c1900
in this porch, with bulrushes, lilies, birds and foliage. Most
windows have internal panelled shutters; entrance hall has egg
and dart stucco cornice; some other C19 stucco detail. High
wall attached runs from porch on left return along W boundary
of garden and is ramped up at left over door in brick jambs.
