Cottage, formerly an estate cottage for a gamekeeper. Mid C18.
Refenestrated in C19. Front elevation and left hand side of
red brick in English garden wall bond, right side and rear
elevations of Isle of Wight stone rubble with red brick
dressings. Thatched roof with end brick chimneystack. 2
storeys: 3 windows. C19 casements with drip-stones of grey
headers over ground floor windows. Central later plank door in
wooden architrave. Deep brick plinth. Left hand side has
wash-house hand side has an open fireplace with wooden
bressumer and arch to bread oven. Chamfered spine beam with 2
inch chamfer fillet and stop. The parlour end has chamfered
floor joists with run out stops. C18 winder staircase. Built
by the younger branch of the Worsleys of Gatcombe House for
their gamekeeper, it is interesting that brick was used only
for the 2 sides of the house seen from the road.
