Pair of semi-detached houses. Early C19.
MATERIALS: rendered, solid front walls with masonry markings;
right-hand gable wall hung with asbestos slates. Slated roof,
No 1 with asbestos slates. Red brick chimney on each gable
end, that at No 2 with 5 old pots.
PLAN: double-depth.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys with garrets. 3-window front common to
both houses, the middle window blind. Paired doorways set in a
single central opening with a flattened elliptical arch.
6-panelled door (the top 2 panels glazed, the bottom 2 flush)
at No 1; late C20 wooden door with built-in fanlight at No 2.
Between them is a fluted half-column from which rise
foliage-like sprays around plain, semi-circular fanlights.
Upper storey windows have 8-paned sashes, except that the
shorter third-storey windows have only 4 panes in the upper
sash. Bracketed wooden eaves cornice. Centrally placed dormer
with curved top, shared by both houses; 2 pairs of 8-paned
sashes.
Rear wall (visible from Mill Head) has in third storey barred
sashes matching those at the front; also 1 at left (west) end
of second storey. In the second bay from the left in the
second storey is an old, projecting weather boarded closet; it
has a sash window on the left side, the upper sash with 6
panes.
