7/81 Swinford House

GV II

House. Circa mid C19 virtual rebuilding of circa C17 house. Red
brick covered in ivy, earlier brick in south end wall. Slate
hipped roof with lead roll hips and brick dentil eaves cornice.
Brick axial stacks.
PLAN: Double depth plan; three rooms at front, smaller right-hand
room and with entrance hall to left of centre room. 2 storey
outshut on right-hand side.
EXTERIOR: 2 stories. Asymmetrical 4 east front plus 1-window 2
storey outshut on right. 3 left windows are symmetrical around
doorway to left of centre. 2-light moulded cross mullion-transom
windows with casement and small panes. Panelled door, large
rectangular over-light with glazing bars and panelled reveals.
Doorway and windows have flat brick arches, windows with store
cills. Outshut on right has 2-light casements with leaded
panels.
INTERIOR: circa mid C19 staircase with balusters and bulbous
column newel. Front and back right-hand rooms have chamfered
beams with cymoa stops to high ceilings.
NOTE: Said to have been the agent's house of Stanford Park Estate
(Stanford Hall) Westrill and Stanford parish (qv)
