Description

EATON SCALFORD ROAD
(West side)
SK 7728 EASTWELL
Barn immediately west of
37/364 Crossroads Farmhouse
31.8.79 (Eastwell Lodge)
GV II

Barn. Dated 1805 and 1857. Coursed squared ironstone and pantile
roof with stone-coped gables. Probably 6 bays. Central doorway
and doorway to left, both with brick cambered arches and jambs.
Similar doorways opposite on side facing yard. Mid C19 sawn
trusses to most of roof but part nearer house has earlier timbers
and chamfered loft-floor spine beam. Barn was originally
threshing barn with loft to one end (date 1805 said to be
inscribed on wall) and central doorways made smaller later (date
1857 likely for this). Included for group value.
