War Memorial about 40m E of Church of St. Mary

War Memorial. 1921. By W. Reid Dick. Ashlar. 3 steps up to massive
rectangular base to slightly tapering pylon with later pyramidal
capping. Carved figures of Grief with date 1914 and Victory with date
1918 lean on sides of pylon. Names of war dead inscribed. Moved from
original site at W end of High Street in 1960's at which time a bronze
statue of a lion and an eagle which surmounted this monument was moved
elsewhere, see War Memorial Statue, NORTHWAY.
