Mariner's Inn

II

Public House, now private house. Early C17 with C19
alterations and north extension. Timber-framed with brick, all
rendered and whitewashed. Gabled pantile roof. 2 storeys and
attic. West front faces road, now entered through doorway in
long C19 one-storey and dormer attic range abutting to north.
Main block with 2 casements each floor of C20 origin. Exposed
timber studs and middle rail. Internal brick stack to north.
South gable wall of late C19 brick. Rear with a full-length
outshut under catslide roof. C19 wing mostly of clay lump on
plinth. Pantiled roof. 2 late C20 garage doors to right of
door under sloping hood. Various late C20 casements. 4 sloping
dormers.
INTERIOR. Ground-floor bridging beams plain chamfered.
Principal studs have jowled tops. One rough-cut upper cruck
survives. Roof of principals and 2 tiers of purlins, the lower
butted, the upper clasped. C20 collars.
