2 cottages in one block. Mid C16 with C19 additions.
Timber-framed and plastered, red brick stacks, thatch and
peg-tiled roof. Plan rectangular. 2 storeys. Front W
elevation: 2 central long jettied bays with central principal
joist and supporting bracket. Principal stack in line behind.
N and S end additions flush with upper front wall, each with
end gable stacks, only S end addition tiled, rest thatched.
Irregular 6 window range all casements with glazing bars, of
C19 and C20. 2 doorways, N in addition with C20 door, S in
lean-to with clay tiled porch bridging old and newer units,
C20 door. Rear E elevation: flush walling, N end addition seen
to be skew to central block and building break clear at S end.
Irregular fenestration similar to front elevation. N and S end
elevation: gable ends similar with external C19 stacks. N end
blank. S end has ground floor blocked doorway and single
casement window to rear. First floor single casement window to
front.
INTERIOR: No.1 inspected. Central jettied framing with upper
front posts jowled at both top and bottom for jetty
construction. Framing markedly skewed in parallelogram plan.
End units asymmetrical to produce square external outline. Big
central fireplaces back-to-back, now with C20 infilling.
