House. c1840. Possibly by Charles Underwood. Limestone ashlar
and a slate hipped roof. Double-depth plan. Greek Revival
style.
2 storeys; 3-window range. Wide pilaster strips to the corners
and central section, to a dentil cornice and parapet. The
porch has 2 Ionic columns in antis to an entablature, a
panelled double door, below a first-floor window recessed
behind 2 columns in antis with acanthus capitals; either side
are tripartite sash windows, below a palmette frieze on the
ground floor, and framed by pilasters on the first floor with
palmette capitals.
INTERIOR: large central hall with a rear curved open-well
stair with stick balusters and curtail, broken pediments
containing urns above the doorways, acroteria in the corners
of the cornice, good marble fireplaces with detached columns,
and panelled doorway reveals and shutters.
