GV II

Wall. Medieval with later repairs and rebuilding. Coursed
squared limestone and coursed squared limestone rubble with
ashlar coping. Approximately 2m high to south end rising in
two stages to approximately 3.5m high to north end with deep
weathered coping. Flush quoins at angles where wall changes
direction slightly. To south end section approximately 2m high
with pier to south end apparently rebuilt C20, C19 stone panel
with coat of arms with lion on shield and motto VIRTUTE ET
INGENIO erected on coping; near north end probable former
carriage entrance now infilled, C20 iron pedestrian gate with
C20 moulded stone architrave, frieze with incised lettering
ABBEY HOUSE and moulded stone cornice. North end adjoins
section of wall belonging to No.2 Dollar Street (qv).
