House designed as landscape feature. Early/mid C18 with C20
alterations. Coursed limestone rubble; stone slate hipped
parapeted roof to rear, other roofs not visible behind
parapet; central stack disguised as merlon of embattled
parapet.
Building in mock mediaeval style consists of 3-storey square
tower with 2-storey range to left side and single storey range
to rear.
3-window range has pair of lancet windows with leaded lights
to first floor left, similar lancet window in tower to right.
Oculus with intersecting glazing bars to second floor of
tower. Ground floor has one pair of similar lancets and one
single lancet, all with leaded lights, to left and centre; one
C20 two-light timber window in probable blocked former doorway
in centre of tower.
Right side has one C20 three-light timber window to first
floor of tower, one pair of lancets similar to front to ground
floor of tower, similar single lancet and C20 three-light
window to single-storey rear range.
Left side has two pairs of similar lancets to each of first
and ground floors, plank door in pointed opening in
single-storey range to rear. Rear elevation has four C20
single- and 3-light windows and plank door all with concrete
lintels to single-storey range, single lancet to first floor
of 2-storey range. Embattled parapet continues on all sides;
building designed to give picturesque appearance from any
angle. INTERIOR not inspected but noted as having largely C20
appearance.
