Listing Text

C17 timber-framed building refronted in the early of mid C19. 3 storeys, 2 bays wide. The front has a modern shop front on the ground floor. The upper floors are faced with painted brick, the 1st floor windows being set in elliptical-arched recesses linked with a springing band. The back, facing Bath Passage is gabled with a stucco facing lined with imitation ashlar joints. Inside, the original C17 plan form survives on the 1st and 2nd floors, with a massive chimney stack separating the front and back rooms, and some of the 1st floor ceiling beams have cyma stop chamfers. The front third of the roof was rebuilt in the C19 but the remainder is of C17 date, with raking queen struts and butt purlins. The chimney stack is of brick, with grouped rectangular flues.
