(east side)

GV II

Pair of attached cottages. Late C18/early C19. Timber framed, facade of
painted brick, elsewhere plastered and roughcast, roofed with handmade red plain
tiles. Single-span range facing SW, with 2 axial stacks. 2 C19 rear extensions
of painted brick under catslide roof. C19/early C20 rear extension to no. 53
only. One storey with attics. No. 53, 3 C19 horizontal sashes of 12 lights, 2
C20 casements in gabled dormers, and a C20 door. No. 54, 3 similar sashes, 2
more in gabled dormers, and a plain boarded door. Each door and ground-floor
window is in a recess with a 2-centred arch. At left end, passage through, with
segmental arch. Gambrel roof. At the rear, some original plaster patterned
with sawtooth identations remains under a canopy between the rear extensions.
