Description

SX 86 NW TORBRYAN

4/29 Barn approx 50m west of
- Nordon Farmhouse

- II

Barn. Early C16, partly rebuilt C19. Stone rubble and cob corrugated iron roof
with gable ends. Two storeys older part (to left) has at right-hand end a
chamfered round-headed wood doorway with shouldered door jambs, apparently in its
original position. Interior: rough or obviously re-used floor-beams on ground
storey. Roof at older end of building has two trusses with cranked collar-beams
and butt purlins, but no ridge; one truss (the other is covered with hay) has
short cruck feet starting below the wall-tops. Slight darkening in places, but no
firm indication of smoke-blackening or other evidence to suggest that this was ever
a domestic building.
