Description

LANGLEY WITH HARDLEY HARDLEY ROAD
TG 30 SE
3/43 Chestnut Farmhouse
5.9.60

- II

Farmhouse, C17 and later. Colourwashed brick. Thatched and pantiled roofs.
Two storeys and attics. House generally much re-worked with C20 fenestration
but south gable is of particular interest: ground floor window of six lights
with ovolo moulded mullions and transoms and iron casements in raised and
moulded brick surround with banded pilasters with knopped finials and twin
pediments. Similarly detailed corner pilasters. Diamond motif in pilaster
bases. Narrower first floor window similar design with later 3-light
casement set in reduced opening. 2-light attic casement with glazing bars,
set in reduced opening; pilaster bases only remain, the upper part of the
gable having been rebuilt. Square axial chimney stack off-centre; lower
two-storey pantiled range to north. Later one-storey wing to west.
