7/46 Lills Cottage and Windy Cross

2 adjoining cottages. Lills Cottage, probably late C18, Windy Cross probably early
C19 but much altered in C20. Stone rubble and cob, Windy Cross with rendered upper
storey, Lills Cottage entirely rendered. Thatch roof, hipped to Lills Cottage, gable
end brick stacks to Windy Cross.
Plan: Lills Cottage small 1 1/2 room direct entry plan. Windy Cross originally 2
tenements but entirely altered in C20 to form 2-room plan with C20 single storey
extension to rear. The 2 cottages form an overall L-shaped plan, Windy Cross
adjoining to rear left-hand corner of Lills Cottage.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Lills Cottage has 2 window range. C19 2-light casements on
each floor, all 3 panes per light except for left upper storey which has 2 panes per
light. Hipped thatch roof to porch and late C19 6 panelled door, upper 4 panels
glazed. Windy Cross has 3 window range, principally late C19 or early C20
fenestration, 2 light casements, 2 panes per light. Central window retains square
leaded panes. The 2 ground floor windows flanking the C20 door are C20 insertions in
blocked doorways.
Interior: of Windy Cross entirely altered in C20. Lills Cottage not inspected.
