4/142
No. 2, Venton Gannel
4.6.87
GV II

House. Circa late C18, extended in the C20. Rubble base, painted cob above ground
floor sill levels, slate sills, wooden lintels. Wheat reed thatched roof with gable
end; chimney possibly removed C20 over left hand gable end. Thatched roof also over
single storey extension at left.
Two room plan originally with slightly large kitchen, with large fireplace on right,
probably with stair in small projection but rear is now rebuilt outshut. Partitions
between rooms and central cross passage removed C20. Extended C20 with one room
single storey addition on left hand side.
Two storeys. Nearly symmetrical 2 window roughly south front with possibly original
12-pane horizontal sliding sashes. Doorway central to fenestration, C20 door,
thatched hood on brackets over. C20 open fronted extension on left.
Interior has large granite fireplace with chamfered oak lintel. The oven has been
removed.
One of two C18 thatched houses together, isolated in picturesque wooded surroundings.
