NY 22 NE THRELKELD

5/47 Derwentfolds and
adjoining barn

II

Farmhouse, probably originally 2 houses. Mid C17 with C19 alterations and
additions. Whitewashed rubble on large projecting plinth stones. Graduated
greenslate roof with rendered and brick chimney stacks. Barn of mixed cobbles
and slate rubble. 2-storey, 2-bay right part; lower 2-storey, 3-bay left part
and lower barn to extreme left. Right portion is probably the oldest part.
Sash windows, those on both floors to right double, all in C19 painted stone
surrounds. Left portion has plank door and sash windows, with glazing bars,
except for two on right. Barn has blank front wall. Rear of oldest part has
pent stone porch, with side seat and niche, and semicircular stone staircase
flanking dairy which has slate slab shelves. Coalhouse under stairs has C17 oak
door and hinges. Rear of other part has semicircular stair projection with
staircase now removed. Rear of barn has plank doors and small openings with
lofts above.
