House. Dated 1633, heavily restored in 1983/4. Stone rubble and rendered cob.
Slate roof with gabled ends. 3 rooms and through passage plan with 2-storeyed
porch and later rear outshut and 2 short C20 rear wings. 2-storeys. 5-window
range. C20, 1-, 2-, 3- and 4-light concrete mullion windows with hoodmoulds on
ground floor, replace former wooden casements. More intact gabled 2-storey porch
to left of centre with moulded granite square-head of door frame with initials T
and A carved on label stops and plaque above inscribed with initials "EA 1633 EA"
over shield flanked by initials "RA, EA and GA, IA". A stands for Arundel family.
Moulded wooden inner doorframe and nail-studded door to through passage. Rear
through passage door has wooden chamfered frame with stops. Rebuilt gable end,
stacks and axial stack with moulded concrete caps. Added rear outshut flanked by
short C20 gabled windows. Interior: The roof has been replaced in C20, the porch
roof is original and has 2 tiers of collars. Restored plank and muntin screen to
through passage. Former kitchen at lower side of passage has closely spaced waney
floor beams and large end fireplace with roughly hewn granite jambs and lintel and
oven with separate flue. Moulded wooden doorframe at back of kitchen. Moulded
wooden doorframe from passage to hall. Hall stack backs onto passage and has
granite jambs and reused ovolo moulded lintel. Hall ceiling replaced. Partition
wall between hall and inner room removed. 3 moulded wooden doorframes on first
floor. In spite of restoration some original fabric still survives and is included
in the list. Survey carried out during restoration.
