ST 58 SE ALMONDSBURY EASTER COMPTON

11/25 Washingpool Farmhouse

Farmhouse. C18, altered and extended C19 and C20. Rubble, stone dressings,
concrete tiled front roof, double Roman tiles at rear, weathered coped verges
with kneelers to gables and gable stacks. U-plan. 2 storeys and 3 windows,
all C19 3 and 4-light casements with segmental heads and flat timber lintels
with drip mould over, central porch with pointed arched opening in stone surround
with drip mould, small bull's eye window in similar surround in gable and slit
recesses to each side wall, 4-panelled door with Tudor-arched head. 2 bull's
eye windows in stone surrounds at attic level at sides, C20 extension to left,
rear wings have gable ends with curtain wall between enclosing a courtyard,
decorative wooden valance under eaves of rear wing to right and Tudor arched-
headed casements at lst floor. Interior: cross passage plan with winder stair
to rear, C19 marble fireplaces to front 2 rooms. Rear wings contain service
rooms, including former dairy and cider room to west.
