Description

SE 20 NW BARNSLEY ROAD
(North side)
4/11 Nether End

Farmhouse at Nether
End Nurseries

II

Farmhouse. Cl7 incorporating timber-work of possibly earlier date.
Altered. Coursed rubble, part rendered. Quoins. Stone slate roof,
part missing. Two storeys. 3-bay main range with single storey outshut
to rear and projecting wing to right. The main range contains timber-work
of, perhaps, C16 date. Surviving posts and arcade plate indicate an aisle
to the north. The wing is probably of C17 building phase. The roof of
the main range has principal rafter trusses, possibly relating to the
earlier phase of building and appears to have been hipped. The main range
is of 3 rooms, and the wing of one room. The windows of the stone house
had cavetto moulded mullions on the south wall. On the north wall of the
aisle some timber mullioned windows survive.
