Hamstead Lodge

9.9.69 II

Country House in landscaped park with gardens, now Nursing Home. Circa 1720,
altered and enlarged C19. Stucco, lined out; slate roofs. Rectangular plan
with L shaped extension. 2 storeys and attics; plat-band, cornice and
parapet, and 4 regularly spaced ridge chimneys. Extension has attics in
mansard with dormers behind parapet. North-West Elevation:- 10 glazing bar
sashes with jalousies, grouped 2-2-3-3. Left end with 2 sashes breaks
forward slightly. Entrance under right hand 3 sashes with large portico
of semicircular plan with flat roof on thin grouped iron columns with
delicate cornice and greek key soffit moulding. Double entrance doors
with rectangular patterned fanlight flanked by tripartite sashes. South
West Elevation:- central pediment over slight forward break, glazing bar
sashes,2-1-2,with cast iron lattice balconnettes. South East Elevation:-
slight forward breaks at each end and large, semi-circular plan portico,
now glazed to form bay window to left.7 glazing bar sashes, 1-4-2. Interior:-
full height hall in centre of south-west block with balcony on first floor
and lantern light over.
