GV II

House, 1796-1801, roadside front added before 1805, early-mid C19 addition
on left. Built by Francis Prentis (Scott pp 57-59), Ashlar magnesian
limestone, Westmorland slate roof, 2 storeys, 1:3-bays. Central panelled
door in stone doorcase having ribbed pilasters and fanlight with radial
glazing bars under peaked cornice. Sashes with glazing bars, projecting
stone sills, louvred shutters and flat-arched heads, the ground-floor windows
larger. Dentilled eaves, shaped kneelers and ashlar gable coping,
Shouldered, cement-rendered end stacks with bands. Adjoining the house on
left is a later basket-arched carriage entrance beneath a sash with glazing
bars; other adjoining premises on left not of special interest.
