7/22 Smithy's Cottage


House. C17, extended in C19. Timber framed, plastered, roof thatched. 3 bays
facing E with axial stack in middle bay. Extended to right by 2 bays in C19,
with central stack. Single-storey lean-to extension with corrugated asbestos
roof to right. One storey with attics. 4 Cl9/early C20 casements, and 2 more
in eyebrow dormers. Door at front of C20 gabled porch. The original part has a
large wood-burning hearth facing to left, the mantel beam chamfered with lamb's
tongue stops, axial beams chamfered with lamb's tongue stops, exposed plain
joists, jowled posts, face-halved and bladed scarfs, clasped purlin roof.
