Statue, known as The Gilded Duchess. Lettering on plinth: "Elizabeth Duchess
of Bedford MDCCCLXXV". Inscription on base of statue: "Elkington & Co,
Founders. J. E. Boehm fecit 1875". Gilded bronze statue, much of gilt now
lost, on marble plinth. Approximately 3 metres high in total. Plinth is
circular with 4 pilasters, producing a square appearance. Moulded base and
cap. Virtually life-size standing figure of Duchess, wearing full-length
dress and cloak with ermine collar. Facing N, she holds fan in R hand and
lifts cloak with L hand.
