NY 22 NW BASSENTHWAITE

7/15 Bowness Farmhouse and
adjoining barn/byres

II

Farmhouse and barn/byres. Dated and inscribed on reused lintel from house, now
in byre, I. & A.P. 1689; with early C19 alterations. Painted roughcast walls
under graduated greenslate roof with roughcast chimney stacks. 2 storeys, 3
bays with T-shaped barn/byre to left. Top-glazed 6-panel door and sash windows
with glazing bars all in C19 painted stone surrounds. Barn nearest house has
round-headed passage entrance. Sliding plank door and louvred-vent window, with
loft opening above and triangular vents. Byres at right-angles with steeply
pitched roof. 2 segmental-arched openings with small windows above. Wall to
rear has ground-floor doorways and upper-floor openings. Lean-to extension
against gable wall is of no interest and covers entrance with reused lintel.
