Description

EGLOSKERRY BADIIARLICK
SX 28 NE
8/32 Farmhouse 20 metres to north west
- of Rothay Cottage

GV II

Farmhouse. Possibly C17 origins, remodelled in the mid C19. Rendered and painted
stone rubble and cob. Rag slate roof with gable ends. Brick shafts to axial and
end stacks.
Plan: House built down slope with ground rising to right. Original plan uncertain.
It is possible that the house comprises a remodelled 3-room and through passage
plan, the entrance to left of centre with lower end to left heated by end stack,
hall heated by axial stack backing onto passage and inner room on right unheated.
The shallow projection to the front of the hall is possibly a hall bay and there is
a C19 service wing to the rear of the hall and C19 outshut to rear of the lower end.
Exterior: 2-storeys. Asymmetrical 5-window front with almost complete C19
fenestration. The roof above the hall and inner room has been raised. C19 panelled
door to left of centre with C20 glazed porch. C19 16-pane sash to left and C19 2-
light casement to right with C20 16-pane sash in ground floor of hall bay and
probably dairy window beyond to right. On first floor C19 1-light window above
entrance with C19 16-pane sash to left and C19 2-light casement to right. C20 16-
pane sash in gable end of hall bay and C19 2-light casements beyond to right.
Interior: not accessible.
