House, now dental surgery. Early to mid C19. Coursed squared killas with
granite dressings, slurried slate roof, brick chimneys. Double-depth 1½-
unit plan with rear extension. Two storeys and 3 bays; granite quoins to
corners and all openings; round-headed doorway in 3rd bay with open-
pedimented Tuscan architrave, now lacking shafts but with capitals and
decorated entablatures remaining, dentilled pediment, recessed panelled and
glazed door with margin panes, and fanlight with elegant curvilinear
tracery; 2 large 4-pane sashed windows to the left and 3 above, all with
exposed boxes and raised sills. Gable chimneys. Interior: wide entrance
hall leading to geometrical staircase with scrolled brackets, stick
balusters, and mahogany handrail terminating in a large and elegant wreath;
mahogany doors; moulded plaster cornices, especially in front ground floor
room, which has a vine leaf cornice and large ceiling rose (features of
high quality in a house of such modest size).
