Small house. Circa early C19. Slate rubble with granite dresings; the front is
faced in red Flemish bond brick with granite quoins, plinth, stringcource, sills and
keystones. Asbestos slate roof with gabled ends. Red brick gable end stacks.
Plan: Double depth plan. 2 front rooms, the kitchen to the left and parlour to the
right with a central entrance passage between leading to a stairwell at the back.
There are also 2 shallow unheated rooms at the back. Later in the C19 a 2-storey
outshut was added to the right side. The partition between the front parlour to the
right and the room behind has been removed. The house adjoins the later C19
extension of Lower Calamansack Farmhouse qv to the left.
Exterior: 2-storeys. Symmetrical 3-window south east front with rusticated granite
quoins and stringcourse at first floor window cill level. The window openings have
flat brick arches with large keystones with shaped tops. The ground floor windows
have their original 16-pane sashes, the first floor have been replaced with 4-pane
sashes, the first floor centre is a blind window painted in. Central doorway has its
original wooden doorcase with panelled pilasters, small canopy-cornice on console
brackets, elliptical fanlight with spider's-web glazing bars, panelled reveals and
original 6-panel door, the top 4 panels are glazed, the bottom panels flush and
reeded. To the right a later C19 2-storey lean-to outshut with granite quoins,
around floor doorway and window above.
Rear elevation: 2 early C19 12-pane sashes on the first floor and 2 C20 plastic
windows on the ground floor all with red brick segmental arches. C20 glazed door to
right of centre. C20 garage door in lean-to to the left.
Interior: The front left hand kitchen has exposed ceiling joists, slate floor and a
good C19 iron range with name of Helston maker and shelf above on console brackets.
The right hand parlour has a C20 brick fireplace flanked by cupboards. The entrance
passage has an elliptical arch at the back with panelled pilasters; and a small
winder staircase at the end of the passage with square newels and stick balusters;
plank partition to right of stairwell. Both ground and first floors have original
panelled doors.
