SW 7525 MANACCAN HELFORD

House. Circa late C18 early C19. Painted rubble walls, slate sills, wooden lintels.
Scantle slate roof with brick chimney surviving over right-hand gable end and further
scantle roof at lower level at right. Large external chimney breast at left-hand
gable end.
Plan of 2 rooms wide:larger kitchen/living-room left and parlour right with entrance
vestibule or cross passage between; plus tapered-on-plan single storey room on right,
possibly formerly fish cellar, converted C20 to extend living accommodation. Built
into bank and adjoining road at an angle to rear.
2 storeys at front. Irregular 3-window west front of original house and 1-window
single storey front on right. Wider ground floor window openings with 12-pane 2-
light casements, doorway almost adjoining right-hand window and with probably
original 2-panel door, slate roofed hood on rustic wooden posts. First floor window
openings regularly spaced and square with 12-pane 2-light original horizontal sliding
sashes.
Rear has doorway left of middle with ledged door and C19 18-pane fixed light window
adjoining at left and original 12-pane horizontal sliding sash towards right.
Doorway and left-hand window inserted when south chamber was converted to shop in the
C19.
Interior not inspected.
An essentially little altered house since the C19 and in a prominent position at the
head of the creek.
