Pair of attached houses. Dated 1844. Few later alterations. Stone rubble, rendered
and slate-hung. Slurried slate roof with ridge tiles and gable ends; gable end
stacks with shaped tops.
Plan: Each house is of one-room plan, each room heated by a gable end stack. There
is a porch to each, leading directly into the room, with a stair to the rear of the
room. A rare survival with no integral outshut. No 1 to right has an addition of
C20 to rear; No 2 is to left.
Exterior: Each house is of 2 storeys, each a symmetrical 2-window range. No 1 has
two 2-light casements of 8 panes each with L hinges at first floor. Ground floor has
central C19 conservatory porch with inner half-glazed door; 2-light 3-pane casement
to left, 2-light 2-pane casement of C20 to right. The front is slate-hung at upper
level, all painted.
No 2 has two 2-light casements of 8-panes each light with L hinges at first floor;
ground floor central C19 conservatory porch with margin glazing, bargeboards and
finial to gable end, half-glazed outer door with margin glazed lights; 2-light
casement to right and left, both C20 replacements. The ground floor level is
rendered, upper level slate-hung; datestone at first floor. Left side blind. Rear
of No 1 has C20 addition.
Interior of No 2: Fireplace at the gable end has plain granite jambs and timber
lintel; cloam oven to rear right of fireplace. Winder stair to the rear right of the
room. The room has been partitioned in the C20 to form a small room to the right.
