Shop and offices, 1901 by Cackett and Burns Dick (Newcastle), for J.
Fitzgerald Esq. Early/mid C20 shop front. Gable partly rebuilt mid C20.
Now used as public house. Red brick, in Flemish bond, with painted stone
and stucco dressings and shop front. Welsh slate roof. Gable fronted; 3
storeys and attic, 2 bays with 3-bay shop front. Renewed panelled doors
under fanlights with iron grilles, at ends. Central renewed, partly
segmental-plan window, with iron casements, recessed behind flanking
columns-in-antis with moulded bases and acanthus capitals. Plain fascia and
cornice. 2 storey, 4-light canted bay windows on thin brackets; sashes with
glazing bars in upper parts. Enriched escutcheons and festoons in 2nd floor
frieze. Deep narrow cornice on thin brackets. Plain gable has 4 coupled
sash windows. Ornate shaped iron rainwater heads at ends. Renewed
truncated end stacks. Included for group value.
