1900-02 by William and Segar Owen. Red brick, 2 high storeys. Stone centre portion
with massive entrance up steps, with hood, blocked paired columns above with large
curved pediment at top, and iron balcony to upper window. 5 windows on each floor
at each side of entrance and also in semi-basement behind area steps. Terracotta
relief panels below upper windows, with names of eminent historical scientists.
Interior hall has mosaic floor with signs of zodiac, elaborately carved doorways,
glass, moulded frieze, and iron balusters to stairs.

All the listed buildings in Palmyra Square form a group with Nos 9 to 2l (odd), the
Museum and Art Gallery Bold Street, No l0 Egypt Street, Nos 3 to 13 (odd) Springfield
Street, and Nos l3 and 15 Suez Street.
