George monument approx 5m E of
Chancel of Church of St Peter and St
Paul

Chest tomb. c1781. Ashlar. Recessed fluted pilaster at each
corner with sloping shaft, moulded cap and base set on plinth,
lid capping with vertical incisions, weathered top slab. On
long north side is a raised oval panel with sea shell relief
at each corner. Inscription reads "To the memory of Mr James
George who died Nov. 11th 1781 aged 55 years, also Mrs Sarah
George wife of the above who died April 18th 1813 aged 74
years. Also 4 children who died in their infancy. Also Hannah
wife of James George who died 29th ---- aged -- years". Other
inscriptions illegible. This monument formerly had an iron
railed enclosure. Top stonework on south-east corner broken
away. Some ivy and vegetation growth.
