Farmhouse. Mid - late C19, probably a late C17 - early C18 core. Plastered local
stone rubble and cob; stone rubble stacks with plastered chimneyshafts; thatch roof.
Plan: L-plan house. The main block faces south and it has a 3-room plan. The main
rooms are those each end and they have end stacks; parlour to left and dining room
,to right. The centre part is an entrance hall with an office behind and straight
flight stair. Kitchen block projects at right angles to rear of the right (east)
end . The first room is the kitchen, a large room with outer lateral stack and
there is a dairy behind. The fireplace exposed in the dining room looks like it is
a late C17 - early C18 kitchen fireplace. It might be that the front block is a
late C17 - early C18 central service room farmhouse which was refurbished and
enlarged with a new kitchen wing in the C19. House is 2 storeys with attics in the
main block roofspace.
Exterior: symmetrical 3-window front of C19 and C20 casements with glazing bars.
Central doorway contains a part-glazed 4-panel door behind a contemporary flat
roofed porch on plain timber posts. The rear wall of the main block contains an
oak-framed window containing rectangular panes of leaded glass, many of them very
old and tinged green. This could be late C17 - early C18. Tall main block roof is
hipped both ends and contains a rear dormer window with shutters.
Interior: shows mostly the result of the mid - late C19 modernisation and much of
the joinery detail dates from then. The only feature older is the dining room
fireplace; it is large, built of stone rubble and has a plain oak lintel. Roof not
inspected.
