1861. Built as Market Hall and dated as such in modern centre plaque on
front elevation.
Stands at corner of High Street, Market Place and Midland Road in town centre.
Red brick with slate roof. Front gable coped with kneelers. One storey.
Two windows on front gable end facade which faces street. Inset plaque
with date and clock between windows. Round arched windows with stuccoed
moulded band at impost height carried round archivolt. Latticed glazing.
(Modern single storey entrance block across ground floor of no interest).
Side facade has 5 similar windows separated by brick pilasters. Brick eaves
cornice, Pre 1914 5 bay stepped glazed roof open loggia for market at east
side with iron columns and decorative ironwork in the spandrels.
