House, former Manor House. C.1400 and late C19. Part timber framed but encased
and extended in gault brick. Roofs are a mixture of clay peg tiles and Welsh
slates. Complex plan form with 2 parallel ranges cited north/south with return
block across north end and projecting wing on west front. Roofs are all gabled
with fretted bargeboards. East front has 3 bay block with double hung sashes with
segmented heads and single vertical glazing bar, 3 gabled domes, and dentilled
cornice and central porch. Beyond, to the north, is a gabled block. with projecting
single storey extension with balustered roof terrace. The east front has a mixture
of double hung sash windows with small panes and C19 casements with plain upper
lights, small panes and hexagonal upper panes. On the west elevation is a partly
exposed late C18 doorcase with low pitched pediment on scroll brackets with pendant
mutules and contemporary 8 panelled door, all within the Cl9 segmented headed arch
topped recess. The interior contains the 'low' end bay of a first floor hall of
c.l400 and additional service bay over a timber framed 'undercroft'. The floor of
this is supported on a spine beam with sanson posts with heavy arch bracing. The
crown post roof with moulded capital and base of central crown post survives complete.
To the south of this is a C17 range with re-used, soot blackened rafters and C17
panelled room on ground floor, The eastern range is also timber framed of probably
the late C17 to early C18.
