GREAT AMWELL AMWELL HILL

A small house. Probably C17. Timberframed, plastered on
rendered base. Steep red pantiled roof. A small T-shaped house
facing E with one and a half storeys main range and 2 storeys N
crossing jetted on E. Front has been extended under a low
extension of the main roof to the line of the crosswing. 2-light
and 3-light wooden casement window. Gabled and tilehung dormer
on each roof slope. S gable faced in C18 red brick in header
bond. External gable chimney rebuilt in yellow stock brick.
Yorkshire sliding casement on right of chimney. Red brick
chimneys at junction of crosswing with lower main range on N wall
of crosswing. Plain bargeboard to front gable and applied
timbers to jetty and corners. On a steep bank above the road-
cutting with an older steep cutting to rear.
