Milepost. Circa 1840. Allen and Co of Taunton, iron founders. Cast iron. Triangular in plan, hollow in section, sloping top, plinth with name of iron founders set below ground level. Inscribed in raised lettering right "TAUNTON 9", left "HONITON 9 3/8". The Honiton and Ilminster Trust obtained consent to turnpike the section of road from Shoreditch, south of Taunton, to the Devon border by an Act of 1840.
