II

Terminus stone. Probably early C19. Sandstone with cast iron plaque bolted
on. Cambered head to stone about 450 mm high, shaped top to plaque inscribed: Here ends the Taunton Trust. This marked the extent of the Taunton Turnpike
Trust's responsibility on the Taunton to Elworthy road; the Trust was in operation from 1752 to 1875. A rare survival of a terminus stone.(SANHS Proceedings, Vol 127, 1981).
